John E Cash - Biography |
||
|
John E Cash (Al Hewson) first heard Johnny Cash when he was 11 years old. It made a big impact; what he heard was “Blood Sweat and Tears” the 1963 concept album of the American working man featuring songs like ‘The Legend of John Henry’s Hammer’ and ‘Casey Jones.’ He was hooked, and over the coming years he acquired other LPs from the Cash back catalogue as well as new releases. Always hoping for a big deep voice he was eventually rewarded and sang his first Johnny Cash song in public in 1969 aged 15. It was of course “A boy named Sue. Just three years later in a smokey bar playing country music, he met his wife to be, a girl named Sue.~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In 2008 John, Hamish, Sue, Gina and Rich came together and formed "Orange County". ~~~~ Orange County is the melodious Cajun/Old Time/Country-rock band who provide the delicious sounds behind the songs of John E Cash and their own arrangements to great fiddle tunes and country-rock songs of band singer Hamish Currie. Hamish Currie: vocals and guitar Originally from the east coast of Scotland, Hamish is a superb guitarist and a fine singer. He has played clubs from Cumbria to Sussex and featured at festivals from Yorkshire to Dorset.. His repertoire is now taken from the traditions on both sides of the Atlantic and laced with some original and contemporary material. ~~~ Sue Hewson: fiddle Sue was raised in Hove and Welwyn Garden City where she was classically trained on piano. When learning that even fully grown, her fingers could still only span two keys, she opted to learn fiddle instead, which she loves. A original member of Millrace Ceilidh Band she joined Tam Lin in 2006 when the band reformed and has played with them from Cornwall to Shetland. ~~~~ Gina Reid: fiddle Georgina has music in her blood; her father is a well regarded jazz musician and she was trained classically from an early age. Gina has wide ranging musical tastes and experience, having played in string quartets, orchestras and in church. In 2001 she joined Millrace Ceilidh Band and Celtic concert band Tam Lin in 2006 touring widely. ~~~~ Richard Banks: 5 string bass:- With a background in Jazz, Blues and Rock, Richard made his debut playing blues in Denmark in 1979; returning to England to play blues, folk and pop styles. In the 90's he played with Badger and later with Grapevine Blues at the Chelsea Blues and Reading Blues Festivals. Currently collaborating on projects with the Golden Eagles & singer Hamish Currie. |
